The SolarCross chair is partly inspired by a painting of mine, referring to the ancient solar-cross-symbols, known from several ancient cultures.
At the same time, it addresses the factory-theme (theme of the SE22-exhibition) in the use of only one-dimensions of “boards” (rectangular – 25 by 52mm - Ash-profiles) for all parts in the frame.
I am completely aware, that the chairs expression has referential roots a hundred years back in history; to BAUHAUS, the Russian constructionists and – not at least – the Netherland art-group; de Stilj. Not as a concrete form-similarity with any known historical - or contemporary - chair, but solely as an association on a general level.
The chair can be flat-packed and was envisioned in two version. One of them with seat and back in fabric, designed by Marie-Louise Rosholm and totally made of circular materials; 100% hemp and kapok.
